Chioggia is the capital of fish and a European centre of vegetable production. It has its own culinary tradition and typical cuisine. In the patisseries you will find "pevarini" (cakes made with honey, almonds and pepper), "papini" (typical Easter sweets , "smegiassa" (with apples, pumpkin, molasses, pine nuts and sultanas),"bossola" (typical bread ring with no crust) and a typical cake from Chioggia made with chicory and carrots. You can enjoy loacal cuisine in restaurants that ingredients from the sea, the lagoon and from the vegetable gardens, including dishes like "sarde in saore", "bibarasse in cassopippa", seafood risotto or risotto with DOC chicory from Chioggia and grilled and fried fish, etc. |
